About Our Director and Singers

MEET CONNIE EMERY!

Bach With a Beat is so happy to welcome Connie Emery as our new Director.  Connie comes from a musical family. Connie has played the flute since 4thgrade, over 60 years!  She has always loved to sing, and has been part of Bach With a Beat for six years, singing and playing her flute.  She is also a member of The Villages Flute Choir and Windsong Flute Ensemble.

She majored in music for one semester in college before deciding she did not want to be a band director.  She did become an elementary school teacher, teaching 2ndand 3rd graders for 35 years in Oswego, Illinois.  All those years, though, she was still involved in music, singing in church choirs and giving flute lessons.

She and her husband Jerry moved to The Villages in 2009.  Little did she know that her musical life would go in a new direction in her 70th year!  When the choir director at her church, First Presbyterian of Wildwood, retired, Connie was chosen to direct it and found that she loved doing.  Later, when Marilyn McLean stepped down as director of Bach with a Beat, Connie was selected as interim director.  A few months later, she is still enjoying the position and plans to stay on as director. She credits all the choir directors she has had for the skills she has emulated, and she is still learning!
